AVIATOR'S KIT BAG 6505-1
During WWII, flight equipment was generally not issued on a permanent basis. Kit bags and associated gear were treated as squadron property and were typically returned at the end of a tour or when an airman was removed from flight status, allowing the equipment to be reissued to another crew. As a result, original examples are often marked with stencilled ownership such as “PROPERTY OF U.S. GOVERNMENT”. While official policy required return, some veterans did retain items through unofficial means.
